The difficult art of becoming.

The straitjacket of belief

The precursor to this morning’s sermon was a two minute video talk about opposition to gay marriage from the director of the Australian Christian Lobby, Jim Wallace.

Thing is, I don’t agree with him, or the ACL’s methodology. I’m really struggling with trying to work out how to respond to the issue, and I’m not sure that a 52,000 signature petition is the most Christlike way to respond.

In talking with another friend, he told me that society is built on God’s principles and if you don’t honour those principles society will fall apart.

My problem is that those points of view can easily be boiled down to a elevator-pitch or a tweet, while having an alternative position or questioning how to respond (like I am) can’t.

So instead I feel like I’m living a double-life by asking questions and believing things that don’t hold my churches party line, and just waiting to be found out, and be given a “wear the straitjacket or get out” ultimatum.
